Bio
James P. McHargue is a Chicago workers’ compensation and personal injury lawyer and the founding partner of McHargue & Jones, LLC, a law firm dedicated exclusively to protecting the rights of injured workers and accident victims throughout Chicago and Cook County, Illinois.
Jim relocated to Chicago to attend Loyola University Chicago, where he studied history and Spanish and graduated cum laude in 1994. He earned his law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law, gaining early hands-on litigation experience while working as a law clerk for a firm focused on workers’ compensation and personal injury cases. During this time, Jim worked closely with injured workers and their families—experiences that solidified his commitment to advocating for people during some of the most challenging periods of their lives.
In 2000, Jim founded the Law Offices of James P. McHargue with a clear mission: to aggressively represent injured individuals and hold insurance companies accountable. That firm later evolved into McHargue & Jones, LLC, which has since helped thousands of injured workers and accident victims across Chicago and Illinois recover compensation for medical care, lost wages, and long-term disability.
With more than two decades of experience, Jim has built a reputation as a tough, client-focused advocate who is deeply familiar with the Illinois workers’ compensation system and personal injury law. He is known for taking on complex and disputed claims and for providing direct, personalized representation to every client.
Jim is fluent in Spanish and regularly represents Spanish-speaking clients throughout the Chicago area. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Association. He lives in the Chicago suburbs with his wife and two children.
