Matthew C. Jones

Matthew C. Jones is a Chicago workers’ compensation and personal injury attorney and partner at McHargue & Jones, LLC. For nearly two decades, he has represented injured workers throughout Chicago and Cook County, including employees of some of the largest public and private employers in Illinois.

Matt has represented Amazon warehouse workers, UPS drivers and package handlers, Walmart warehouse and retail employees, CTA bus drivers and mechanics, Rivian factory workers, and Chicago Public Schools teachers and maintenance staff — among thousands of other injured workers across the Chicagoland area. He understands the physical demands placed on warehouse employees, delivery drivers, transit workers, factory workers, mechanics, retail employees, and educators, and he aggressively pursues full workers’ compensation benefits when employers or insurance carriers dispute claims.

Born and raised in Chicago, Matt earned his undergraduate degree from DePaul University before attending Michigan State University College of Law, where he graduated summa cum laude in 2006. During law school, he gained extensive litigation experience, including serving as a law clerk with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. He received the Jurisprudence Achievement Award in multiple subjects, including Torts, Contracts, Criminal Law, and Corporate Finance.

Since joining McHargue & Jones upon graduating from law school, Matt has devoted his practice exclusively to Illinois workers’ compensation law. He became a partner in 2011 and has taken more than 100 workers’ compensation cases to trial before the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission. He is known for trying difficult cases, litigating disputed injury claims, and holding large employers accountable for medical benefits, temporary total disability payments, permanent disability awards, and fair settlements.

Matt regularly handles cases involving repetitive trauma, back and neck injuries, shoulder and knee injuries, lifting injuries, machinery accidents, construction injuries, and claims that have been denied or delayed by employers or insurance companies.

Matt regularly writes about Illinois workers’ compensation and workplace injury issues affecting warehouse workers, delivery drivers, transit employees, factory workers, educators, and other Chicago-area workers.

Fluent in Spanish, Matt represents clients across Chicago’s diverse communities. He is an active member of the Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Association, previously served as Chair of the Chicago Bar Association Workers’ Compensation Committee, and currently serves on the Legal Advisory Board of Arise Chicago, advocating for working families.
